wild birds

above are some pictures of the wild peregrines in derby, taken throughout the last 6 months or so. hope you enjoy, although these pictures were taken before the ones below using a different camera, i think they are of decent quality, although not as good as the ones of colins birds.
talking of which, as many of you are aware colin has been letting me photograph his peregrines throughout their training. and also at times letting me fly one from the fist. this was a first for me, and to be honest i was quite nervious to start with incase i hurt the bird in any way. This did not stop me though and i am pleased to say i have managed to fly these amazing birds. the photos of colins birds were taken with a canon 400d with a Tamron, 70 - 300mm f4 -5.6 lense. but i am going to be using a bigger lense as soon as my knee is better. so hopefully the pictures will get better and better.

yesterday

i was out with colin yesterday and i am pleased to announce that the two birds we went out with flew quite well, the first one more so than the second but both flew,

the first one was quite powerful and exact in its flight, and sometimes flying upside down once caught its dinner

whereas the second miss judged the flights slightly at first. pictures of both birds are to follow.

update2

after the last couple of days being total wash outs not alot of flying has been done by the captive birds, although a little was done yesterday. and both myself and colin have been drenched while we have stood in terrential thunderstorms in the derby area. this being said i have managed to take a few other shots, and when i get to them i will be posting them on here, so watch this space for them. and also once i am upto date with all the picture on here i will be adding a few more from time to time, until next seasons breeding activities then the pictures will come thick and fast again "hopfully"

it has to be said that allthough 010 of the derby city peregrines, has been injured i hope that this is the last set back that the birds have for a while now and they can mature into masters of the air like all other peregrines.
so yet again a big thankyou to colin for his help and advice, and indeed looking after 010.

update

the pictures above, were taken over the last few days whilst out with colin and his peregrines. as you can see the differance between these and the ones previous the quality of picture is a hell of a lot better.i found something new out whilst looking through some of the pictures i have taken, when the peregrine makes impact with the prey there is a membrain that covers the eyes at the last second to protect them, this is seen on one of the pictures i have taken. i double checked this with colin and he has also advised me that this is the case.talking to colin today and he has advised me of the next part of my "training" it messy and gory but i am sure i will be able to manage. updates will be posted when i have completed it.while flying a male peregrine today with colin, i jumped the gun slightly as i thought the peregrine was flying away from us, but colin advised me to have some faith. and as he said this, the bird circled around some trees into the wind and lifted up on the wind and up to the prey. so again a big thankyou to colin for his advice and patiance with me.

sorry

Sorry for the change of address on here but my blog was playing up so i have created a new one.
